Case Study: Starward Distillery FRP Gantry

Starward Distillery is boutique distillery located in inner city Port Melbourne, Victoria, where locally sourced ingredients, (only a day’s drive away) are sourced to produce whisky for a curious, food loving and obsessed generation. As part of an upgrade to their production, Composite Engineering was commissioned to build a showcase FRP gantry including columns, handrails, staircases and walkways.
MaxiSTRUCT FRP beams and columns were chosen for the substructure of the gantry to provide a lightweight, high strength and virtually maintenance free structure. The walkways all feature MaxiGRATE FRP 38mm micromesh grating and the stairs were created from our MaxiSTRUCT structural treads, all of which provide a safe nonslip walking surface for the distillery patrons and staff. The perimeter was made safe by erecting our MaxiRAIL handrail system with stainless steel cable infills.

The structure is approximately 20m x 10m and stands 3.5m off the ground. All of the items including the stairs were fabricated at our factory in Dandenong South and transported to site, to allow for easy installation on site.
