Mine sites are hard on steel. Dust, moisture, process chemicals and constant washdown corrode walkways, handrails and platforms, and every repair costs production time. Composite Engineering designs and manufactures FRP (fibreglass reinforced polymer) access products that will not rust, do not conduct electricity and need very little maintenance.

Corrosion and chemical resistant. FRP holds up where steel needs regular repainting or replacement.
Non-conductive. A safer choice for access structures near electrical equipment.
Fire resistant. The Maxi range carries a flame-spread index of 25 or less when tested to ASTM E-84, and meets the ASTM D-635 extinguishing requirements.
Lightweight. Structures are simple to move into position, which cuts installation time and downtime.
Non-slip. Grit surface finishes give safe footing in wet and dusty conditions.

FRP Grating for Mining

MaxiGRATE FRP grating comes in standard, mini and micro mesh, in a range of thicknesses and grit finishes. It is used for walkways, platforms, stair treads and pit covers. We cut panels to fit openings and irregular shapes, so they arrive ready to fix down.

FRP Handrails, Ladders and Walkways for Mining

MaxiRAIL handrails come standard in safety yellow for clear visibility and never need repainting. The system is modular, so site crews can assemble it from off-the-shelf parts, and self-closing safety gates are designed to meet Australian Standards.

MaxiLADDER FRP ladders are designed to AS 1657-2018, with cages and landings where the height requires them.

FRP walkways give elevated access to tank valves and switchgear, bund access and pipe crossovers. FRP cable ladders carry cabling through areas where steel trays corrode.

We use FEA and physical load testing, so the structure is not over-engineered and you are not paying for material you do not need. Components are cut, machined and assembled at our Melbourne factory and packed for straightforward assembly on site.
